When accessing ServiceArizona, why do I receive the "System encountered an error" page or a security alert?

ServiceArizona uses digital certificates issued by VeriSign to ensure that your connection with ServiceArizona is protected.

VeriSign, in January of 2003, discontinued support for digital certificates installed in earlier versions of Internet Explorer®5.0 (IE 5.00.2614) and below and Netscape Communicator®4.6 and below.

ServiceArizona customers using these earlier browsers are affected. One of two things may happen:

  1. You may receive the "System encountered an error" page. There will be no further information on the error page that helps you identify the problem, though. You will not be able to continue with your current task.

You will have to upgrade your browser by following the steps below.

  2. You may encounter a security alert message whenever you attempt to enter a secure session. You will have the option to continue and if you choose to do so, your session will still be encrypted.

To avoid the security alert/error page in the future, we recommend that you either update your browser's root certificate or upgrade your browser to a supported version.

How does EZ Registration Renewal work?

Can I renew my vehicle registration by phone?

Yes, you can renew your vehicle registration by calling the toll free number 1-888-713-3031. Before calling, please have your vehicle registration form and a valid Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover credit/debit/check card ready to use.

Who can use ServiceArizona to do a registration renewal?

All Arizona drivers are eligible to use ServiceArizona unless:

What do I need to have in order to do a registration renewal?

Where will my registration be mailed?

You are required by law to provide your current mailing address. Your license tab and registration receipt will be mailed to your address on record. If your tab is mailed to the wrong address, they will need to be re-issued, and this may result in a $5 re-issue fee. Please ensure that your address is correct before renewing.

How long will it take to get my vehicle renewal registration in the mail?

Your vehicle renewal registration and tab will be mailed to you within 5 business days.

How long will it take to get my plate in the mail?

Personalized plate orders are reserved pending final approval. If approved, the plate will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks. Specialty plate orders will be mailed within 5 business days.

How do I ensure my mailing address is correct?

If you have your vehicle registration form and your address information on the form matches your current address, your address is correct.

If you do not have your vehicle registration form, or the address information shown on the form is not correct, you will need to complete a change of address. Click here to change your address.

How do I change my address?

MVD has developed a computer system that links all of your records together. This means that when you change your address on your vehicle registration, it will automatically change the address on each vehicle on which you are listed as the Primary Registration Recipient and on your driver license.

Primary Registration Recipient is defined as the vehicle owner or registrant who is designated on the MVD database to receive the registration for a vehicle.

To change your address, you will need your name, date of birth, and driver license or identification card number. Click here to change your address.

What happens after I complete an emissions test?

The emissions test results are automatically updated within the MVD system. You may keep your Arizona Vehicle Emissions Inspection Certificate for your records.

If I fail my emissions test and my registration expires while the vehicle is being repaired, what do I do?

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) states that to avoid late penalties from the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), all testing and repair must be completed prior to the registration expiration date. However, if your first test was performed in your registration month, you have 30 days from the first test to complete the process. This will not prevent you from receiving a ticket from law enforcement. Click here for more information.

What is a penalty fee?

A penalty fee is assessed when your renewal registration payment is not received by the expiration date indicated on your vehicle registration form. If payment was due on the last day of the month, and was paid late, on or before the last day of the next month (or if due on the 15th and paid on or before the 15th of the next month) an $8 late fee will be added to your payment total. For each additional month, a fee of $4 is assessed. If you do not receive a renewal notice before the end of the next registration period, you must still renew by the expiration date.

Trailer Information

Trailers are registered based on usage (non-commercial or commercial) and declared GVW (gross vehicle weight). Non-Commercial usage with a GVW of 10,000 pounds or less is registered as Permanent. Commercial usage with a GVW of 10,000 or less is registered as one, two or five year registration. Trailers with a GVW over 10,000 are registered as permanent (see chart below).

EZ Renewal will ask the user to declare the intended usage on trailers that are registered with a GVW 10,000 or less. When used non-commercially permanent registration fees are assessed. Permanent registration is a one time fee and a “PERM” tab will be mailed to the owner. By registering as “PERM”, you’ll never pay vehicle license tax or registration fees again for this trailer.

Permanently registered trailers with a personalized and/or specialty plate are subject to the annual personalized and/or specialty plate fee.

Trailer Usage GVW  Registration Type  Renewal Fees
Non-Commercial 10,000 or less PERM $75.00 – One time Vehicle License Tax ($70.00) and Registration Fee ($5.00)
Commercial 10,000 or less 1 Year, 2 Year or 5 Year Vehicle License Tax is collected based on registration type of 1 Year, 2 Year or 5 Year.

Travel trailers are not eligible for permanent registration. They are registered either as one, two or five year registration.

Why are the fees displayed in ServiceArizona Renewal different from the amounts printed on my renewal notice?

Renewal notices are printed approximately 45 days prior to the registration due date. If you ordered a personalized/specialty plate within the last 45 days, then your renewal notice may not show your annual renewal fee for the personalized/specialty plate: however this fee will be displayed in ServiceArizona and it is due when you renew your registration.

To whom will my motor vehicle record information be released?

The Federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act 18 U.S.C. 2721-2725, as well as Title 28, Chapter 2, Article 5 of the Arizona Revised Statutes, specifies that the personal information contained in your vehicle record may not be released to anyone without your consent, except when it is a matter of public health and safety, or when the individual or entity requesting such information is otherwise authorized to obtain it under federal law. However, during the renewal process, you may consent to the release of your driver license and vehicle record information to any individual or entity that makes a proper request. This consent would apply to all owners of this vehicle
