Arizona law requires insurance companies to electronically report all insurance policy cancellations, non-renewals or new policies to the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) within 7 days. The insurance companies provide MVD with customer information, certain vehicle information, and also insurance coverage details. The information provided from the insurance company is used not only to provide proof of coverage that complies with the states minimum requirements, but the information is also used to verify that the information is being applied to the correct customer record. That is why we ask that all policy information being sent to MVD includes a vehicle identifier so that we can properly match the insurance with the vehicle, and make updates accordingly. The criteria established, helps the process to run smoothly.

However, there are instances when the information provided by insurance companies does not match the MVD database, one of which is incorrect vehicle identification numbers (VIN). If your insurance agent or company fails to provide the correct VIN, then the proof of insurance supplied by your insurance company will not match up with our database. Subsequently, under state law, MVD must send a letter asking you, as the vehicle owner, to provide sufficient proof of insurance within 15 days or your vehicle registration will be suspended. For this reason, it is critical that you ensure your insurance company provides the correct VIN.

In addition to VIN errors, another major cause for mismatches on the MVD Insurance database occurs when customers try to use “out of state” policies to comply with Arizona’s mandatory insurance laws. It is important that your vehicle insurance coverage is an Arizona-based policy, issued by a company licensed to do business in this state. The vehicle must also be registered in Arizona.

ServiceArizona offers a few different insurance applications that have been designed to fit your needs. The application can be used for easy tasks like verifying if MVD has the latest insurance information on file for your vehicle, or even to reinstate your vehicle from an insurance suspension. ServiceArizona offers real time processing for insurance transactions and even allows for updates to the insurance policy details to be submitted by the registered owner of the vehicle.

Insurance Verification is a service that allows citizens to electronically verify that the Motor Vehicle Division has received your most recent active insurance policy number.

The Motor Vehicle Division obtains this information from:

  • Your insurance company through an electronic file (most preferred)
  • You when you submit a copy of your insurance card

The Insurance Update Application is a service that allows our customers to provide vehicle insurance policy information directly to MVD should they cancel a policy, or perhaps find a new insurance company with better rates and decide to switch. This application allows for quick and easy updates and peace of mind that we have your insurance details on file. Receiving a letter from us requesting policy information means that we don’t have any active policies on file, and could possibly result in vehicle suspension. The application itself in no way interferes with the state law requiring insurance companies to communicate changes to us with 7 days, that will still be occurring and gives MVD the opportunity to perform various measures of validation and compliance for information updated through this application.

Insurance Reinstatement is a service that allows citizens to electronically reinstate a vehicle that has been suspended for violating the mandatory insurance laws of Arizona. The reinstatement process will determine eligibility for reinstatement, and also makes real time updates to or customer database upon completion.

The Motor Vehicle Division must collect a fee for each vehicle reinstatement from a suspension in the amount of $50.00

  • The insurance application is equipped to allow for reinstatement fees to be paid online, and
  • Provide you with a receipt confirmation that indicates the vehicle has been reinstated.

Your insurance company should electronically send the Motor Vehicle Division your policy number and complete vehicle identification number for new policies, non-renewal of policies and cancellations.

To ensure that your insurance policy information is recorded accurately, you can use the ServiceArizona Insurance application to provide us with any insurance policy changes at any time! It is quick and we will ask for information that is printed on your insurance identification card!

If you have received an Insurance Verification Intent to suspend notification, you should verify your insurance information using the “Insurance update / Vehicle Reinstatement” application. If there is a problem, the application will refer you to your insurance company or Motor Vehicle Division based on the information on file.

The Insurance Verification service includes:

  • Entering Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Vehicle Make, Vehicle Year, Arizona Insurance policy number or Binder and Customer/Company information
  • Confirming data entered
  • Viewing and printing the insurance verification results
  • Completing an optional survey

The Insurance reinstatement service includes:

  • Entering Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Vehicle Make, Vehicle Year, Arizona Insurance policy number or Binder and Customer/Company information
  • Confirming data entered
  • Viewing and printing the insurance verification results
  • Completing an optional survey

Your Arizona insurance document may display the word “BINDER” instead of a policy number. Insurance companies use the word Binder until the insurance company is able to assign a policy number. The binder is good for 90 days from date of issue. When Binder appears on your document, you should enter the word “Binder” as your policy number on EZ Insurance Verification for the policy number.

  • Arizona Insurance document
  • Customer/AZ Driver License Number
  • A web browser that supports Secure Socket Layer (SSL) such as Netscape or Internet Explorer
  • An ink jet or laser printer
  • 8 ½ x 11-inch white paper

The registered owner of the vehicle or the registered owner’s insurance company may verify insurance information.

Insurance Verification is free.

Per Statue. The Motor Vehicle Division must collect a $50 reinstatement fee for each vehicle reinstating from an insurance suspension. Generally, this is the only fee associated with vehicle reinstatement however; there are certain instances where other fees that may apply if you’re driving privileges are suspended along with your vehicle.

The “No Record Found” message may display when one or more of the required information fields you entered was not found or does not match MVD’s records:

Vehicles in private names (individuals) or company names:

  • Vehicle Identification Number, Vehicle Make, Vehicle year
  • Customer/AZ Drivers License Number, Company/Company Customer Number
  • Name
  • Mailing Zip Code

This error message may display when the VIN number has been typed incorrectly into either the insurance companies database, the Motor Vehicle Division’s Title and Registration Database or both. To ensure insurance information is received and updated accurately, please verify the VIN number printed on your Insurance Card, and Arizona Vehicle Registration matches the VIN on the vehicle.

If the VIN printed on your insurance card is incorrect, please contact your insurance company for resolution. If the VIN printed on the insurance card matches what is physically on the vehicle, the VIN may have been recorded incorrectly and will require a level 1 inspection before any corrections can be made to our records.

One or more of the following reasons may apply:

  • Your insurance company must be licensed by the Department of Insurance to do business in the State of Arizona. Out of state insurance is not acceptable.
  • Your insurance company has failed to send your insurance information to the Motor Vehicle Division. They are required to send new policies, non-renewal of policies and policy cancellations.
  • The vehicle identification number, vehicle make, or vehicle year sent by your insurance company does not match MVD’s database.
  • The policy number displaying on your card/document may not match what your insurance company submitted. Try entering the policy number without the leading or trailing zeros.

Personal - Liability insurance coverage that meets the States insurance requirements for personal passenger vehicles
